The Feast of Barbarossa 2023

From 14 to 18 June 2023 was held the “Feast of Barbarossa”, the medieval historical re-enactment of San Quirico d’Orcia.

The first day begins with the presentation of the Jugs of the Emperor in front of the church of San Francesco followed by the awarding of the “Orpheus” award of 2022, delivered at the best appearance of the previous year.

On June 15, several participants dressed in historical costumes take part in the “Procession of the Candles”, started by a mass in honor of the patrons and followed by popular games and shows.

Friday is dedicated to dinners in the Districts

The following day the Barbarossa de’ Citti begins, where the young people of the four districts of the area compete in competitions of strength and skill.

During the morning of the last day there is a solemn mass in honor of San Quirico. In the afternoon, however, here is the impressive Historical Procession that commemorates the meeting between the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa and the emissaries of Pope Adrian IV in 1155. Afterwards, there are the fascinating competitions of Flags and Arches at the Horti Leonini. The evening is dedicated to dinners in the Neighborhoods.
